What “Proprietary Blend” Actually Means on a Supplement Label

The Short Answer

A proprietary blend is a group of ingredients listed together under a single combined weight, rather than each ingredient getting its own individual milligram amount on the label. It's a legal, common labeling format under FDA dietary supplement labeling rules, used across a large share of multi-ingredient supplements, not just gummy-format products.

Why Companies Use It

There are two commonly cited reasons: protecting a specific ratio or formulation combination from being copied by competitors, and simplifying a label that would otherwise list nine or more individual line items. Both are true reasons companies give, and reasonable people can disagree about how much weight to put on either one.

What You Still Get

Even under a proprietary blend, every ingredient name must still be disclosed, in descending order by weight, exactly as it appears in the formula. On the Stallion Power label, that means all nine actives — L-Arginine, Maca, Tribulus Terrestris, Muira Puama, Catuaba, Horny Goat Weed, Ashwagandha, Green Tea Extract, and Caffeine — are named in full, along with the total 82mg blend weight per serving.

Our Take

We'd rather be upfront about this than let you assume every ingredient is disclosed down to the milligram, because it isn't. If per-ingredient dosing transparency is a hard requirement for you, that's worth knowing before you order. What we can tell you with certainty is exactly which nine ingredients are in the blend, and we've documented the research behind each of them across our Ingredients page and this blog.
